On May 30th, country music was graced with new artist, Ry Rivers’, debut single, “Kiss a Cowboy.” Paving his own path for the queer country community, Rivers’ begins his country career with a hands-down hit. Complete with heartfelt lyrics, tangible emotions, beautiful vocals, and masterful production, “Kiss a Cowboy” is the perfect debut, capturing the refreshing mix of soulful authenticity and southern feel that Rivers’ embodies.
Joining the likes of Orville Peck and Chappell Roan, Ry Rivers is unafraid to be authentically himself, pouring his identity into his music with artful precision that will leave listeners yearning for more. Originally from Florida, Rivers captivates audiences with his unique mix of vibrant beach nights and country grit. Harnessing a confidence undercut with vulnerability, Rivers opens himself up to audiences in “Kiss a Cowboy,” culminating in an open and meaningful contemplation of what it truly is like to kiss a cowboy. Displaying this level of vulnerability and genuineness is difficult for any artist, much less in their debut single, but Rivers pulls it off flawlessly.
Prior to this release, Ry Rivers gained attention from fellow singer-songwriter Teddy Swims who commented on an Instagram post expressing his anticipation for the single. With a music video set to accompany “Kiss a Cowboy” and a headlining performance at the Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride Parade and Street Festival on June 14th, it looks like Rivers has no intention of slowing down, nor should he. Ry Rivers is someone everyone should be keeping an eye on.
